Obran Ravyn (tedk32)
Obran left Richard's house and started on his mission as soon as he had retrieved a few items from the stores that he would need.
He headed out of the camp and turned down the road in the direction heading away from the soldier's camp but heading toward the castle of this kingdom.
Obran's mission is to find others that are of like mind and bring them back to camp with him as well as retrieve any supplies, weapons, armor, or anything else that can be of use to their cause. He has in mind to find at the least a cart and a couple of horses but, not sure if he will be able to find everything that he is searching for.
The first 2 and a half hours of travel went very well and rather uneventful. Obran had already decided that he would head to the next town and raid their market area, especially the armory and horse breeders.
As he was coming on the last leg of his trek to the town he heard some commotion up ahead on the road and took cover in the nearby wooded area that surrounded the road that he was traveling down.
Obran waited and watched and seen a small group of soldiers appear at the bend in the road traveling in his direction, They were soldiers from the attacking Kingdom and there was only 3 of them. They were fairly armored and looked like they was on a scout mission of sorts, Light traveling gear, and basic weapons for the most part. Obran thought through several options then decided to go for the option that did not fit with what normal people would do, mainly because, he was not that normal.
Obran would lay in wait until the came upon him then just as they started passing he would spring from his hiding place and attack with sword and stick that he picked up as he was waiting. Attacking two of the patrol at the same time.
Obran could determine which of the three was the lead of the group by the garb he wore, and the weapons that he carried, not to mention he was the one that was giving subtle orders to the other two on what to do when they get to where they are going.
As they started to pass his place beside the edge of the road Obran jumped up and out of his hiding place and with his sword in one hand and his stick in the other he aimed his sword for the one that looked like the leader of the patrol's neck and his stick for the head of the man closest to the leader. As he ran full force around the front of the horse of the leader he cut hard right and ran down between the two men aiming his attacks with as much accuracy as he could. His sword struck home and entered the leaders throat and exited the back of his neck and the stick made a solid thud as it landed home across the other mans nose bridge knocking him back-wards from his horse. Obran held fast to his sword with the one hand, dropped the stick and grabbed the hilt of his sword with that hand now and continued his run ripping the sword from the mans neck then stopping and holding his sword at the ready in front of him he surveyed the scene and took note of everything that was around him and within reach.
Obran had not expected to be so successful with his attack as to take out one man, and almost take out a second but was glad that the Gods were smiling down upon him this eve and would send these dogs to meet them as soon as he could... This would be his offering to the Gods for their protection this night.
Glory Feels Miserable (GloryChan)
Life at the palace for the second daughter of King Dragonsbane was boring, boring, boring with a capital B, and she could only listen to so much prattling gossip before she had simply had enough! Sneaking out of her rooms in clothing that would have absolutely shocked many of the other Court Ladies, Rebecca strapped basic supplies on and snuck out her window using a rope.... Once she had made it to the ground, she snuck into the stables and saddled up one of her favorite mares, leading the beautiful roan out by her leads so that she would not make too much noise and possibly wake a stable hand...
Once she was far enough away from the castle, Rebecca mounted up and took to the road... It was not terribly long (though she was hardly marking the passage of time at all!) before she came upon a commotion.
It seemed that there were some enemy scouts (they were not wearing the right colors to be her father's scouts and were moving too stealthily), and a young man that was probably little more than a peasant had gone after them with a sword and a stick....
Good man! She grinned as she watched one falling in a bloody mess (it helped to think of him as little more than an animal hunted down), and another falling to the ground holding his head in agony....
There was no way that she was going to allow this man to have all the fun, even if this was a story that she dare not tell any except perhaps the serving girl that would draw her bath in the morning... that young girl was close to Rebecca's own fifteen summers, and a vampire that she trusted with all her most exciting secrets...
Drawing out one arrow at a time, Rebecca took her shots in quick succession.... one, going far wide of her target.... the second shot only grazed the man's cheek and she could see him wince from what amounted to nothing more than a flesh wound.... But for her third and final shot for the moment, she lowered her aim to the man that was still writhing upon the ground and holding his head....
... and this time her aim was particularly true.... and she had to laugh aloud as she watched the arrow pierce through his one hand and once the THUNK of its landing had sounded.... it actually went through his hand, through his skull, and out through his other hand on the other side of his head!
That... was just.... absolutely priceless!
GK Ted Presents (tedk32)
The last remaining Patrol noticed as Obran came running around his patrol leader's horse and yelled out, "AMBUSH!!" but it was too late, By the time he had finished with the single word his leader was falling from his horse dead, and his other companion was laying on the ground behind his horse holding his head and writhing in pain from the severely broken nose and the thud of hitting the ground head first from the height that he had fallen from.
He yanked on the reins and drew his horse up and turned to face the direction that he had just came from. Drawing his sword he winced more from irritation then from pain as an arrow scratched the flesh of his cheek then watched as another arrow plunged itself into one side of his comrades head and stopped with the arrow tip sticking out of the other side pinning the mans hands to the sides of his head as he fell dead.
The lone patrol kicked his horse into a slight gallop and once clear of his comrade's horse and had gained sight of Obran, he poised his sword to pierce the young knights chest and lunged off of his horse, and with his other arm ready to tackle the man just in case his attack failed.
As he had feared, His sword flew wide and missed the young man completely but what he had not expected is that he would not be able to tackle the young knight. Obran was faster then he had been and had anticipated the mans move. The Patrol fell harmlessly to the ground with a very satisfying thud. The air had been knocked out of the patrol for a moment before he rolled over and attempted to get up and out of harms way.
What had they gotten themselves into this time..
Obran Ravyn (tedk32)
Obran watched as an arrow flew past the man on the horse, then another made some contact and left a nasty scratch on his cheek then heard a 'THUNK' just beside of him where the other man lay in agonizing pain from the attack that Obran had unleashed only a moment ago.
He looked down and just to the right and saw an arrow sticking out of the man's head .. huh... It had pinned his hand to the sides of his face in an eternal expression of OMG..
He turned his attention back to the man on the horse considering these attacks did not seem to be directed at him in anyway and was not worried about the shooter for the moment.. As he looked back he noticed that the rider had moved his horse and was moving toward him, He stepped back and just to the side just in time to avoid a sword that would have run him through and an outstretched arm that would have tackled him to the ground and he could not help but to snicker as the attacker jumped from his horse only to make another THUNK onto the ground at Obran's feet.
This is how it should be he thought as he raised his sword and plunged it downward .. .. .. ..
Obran's sword make contact with it's target with a most satisfying THUD and pierced the man's heart with a single stab, then for good measure Obran twisted his sword ever so gently before withdrawing it from his chest.
Obran then turned his attention to the direction that the Arrows had flown from and.. ... ... Called out "FRIEND OR FOE? .. SHOW YOURSELF!!"
He did not know what to expect but was pretty sure that it should not lead into another fight unless it was some Thief or rogue that had happened upon them and decided to help until he could dispatch the Knight alone.
Rebecca Dragonsbane (GloryChan)
When the enemy scout leaped from his horse as if to either run the young man through or else to tackle him and give enough time that another attack might be pressed before he could react properly, Rebecca was hoping that he would fail utterly.... and that, it seemed, was exactly what the Gods had in mind for this night. She grinned as she watched the man hit the ground rather than his target... and watched that sword plunge into the man's chest and twist a bit before being removed again.
That young man was very good at what he did!
Then he was calling out, asking if she was friend or foe, and demanding that she show herself.... She couldn't help but to give out another chuckle as she settled her bow back to its place of rest across her back, and called out so that he might be able to hear her as she brought her horse to a gentle walk in his direction.
"One would think that would be fairly obvious, sir, considering the fact that thy head sports no new decoration!" She laughed again, grinning brightly as she approached him at a comfortable pace... It could get a little uncomfortable if word were to get back to the castle that she had been a part of something like this... but, somehow, she didn't think that would be a problem. Not tonight, at any rate.
Her grin brightened further as she recognized more fully the face of the man that had so easily dispatched two of the three enemy scouts, her hazel eyes lighting with more than a little amusement... and the surprise in finding him to be so adept a fighter (why wasn't he a member of her father's army, or was he?) was a very pleasant one!
"Why, Obran Ravyn! Fancy meeting you here!" Once she was close enough to do so without taking too much time, Rebecca dismounted and all but tackled the young Knight with a great hug.
This had been so exciting for her so far.... Not only had she gotten the chance to take part in a real fight with real enemies and to good effect... But to find out that someone that she thought of so often since they had first met some five months previous and even snuck out a few times specifically to meet with was such a great fighter when she had so sorely needed something to happen that was not seated within her father's court and all of the boring and annoying antics of Court Ladies...
Tonight, was turning out just perfectly!
Obran Ravyn (tedk32)
Obran watched with sword raised as the archer approached and lowered it as he realized who it was that was so adapt with a bow, Why had she never told him of her skills with such a fine weapon. Well, he could not really blame her as he too had never spoken of his skill with a sword so at least in that respect they were equals.
"Why Rebecca Dragonsbane, What pray tell brings you out so late on such a nice night, and with a bow none-the-less?", about that time she almost tackles him with a hug that seemed to have a mind of it's own.
He returned the gesture of friendship and as soon as she stood straight again he walked over and started checking the bodies for anything of value or use while he listened to what Rebecca had to say.
Rebecca Dragonsbane (GloryChan)
It was so good to see him again, and the fact that this meeting had been so unexpected and of a nature that was more than a little exciting just made it that much better in Rebecca's opinion. Letting go of him after holding the embrace for a moment that seemed both very long and all too short for her tastes... But there was her reputation to think of at the same time... and though she didn't think that anyone might have seen her on her way here.... There were some things that simply were not done...
"If thou but think a moment, the answer to thine question rests within thine own mind, my friend... Mine patience for the prattling idiots that wag their tongues and flatter my father's ego with their every action goes only so far!" She watched with widened eyes as he started checking over the bodies of the dead scouts... Surely, it made sense that he might want to gain something more from this encounter than the satisfaction of killing such marauding dogs as these, but... it was still a surprising action to one that had been raised within the Royal Family...
"... with nary a guard for protection, thou could hardly expect that I would wander the country defenseless, especially considering the current state of affairs within the kingdom!" Perish the thought of her ever being quite that thoughtless in the subject of her own protection! As little as she liked the idea of being surrounded by guards, she enjoyed the thought of taking care of herself very much and that clearly showed from her expression and the way that she had come forward without the first bit of hesitation when he had demanded that she show herself just moments before.
Obran Ravyn (tedk32)
Obran listened to Rebecca as she spoke the whole while removing this piece of gear, or the weapon, and this and that and placing them on the ground nearer the horses that he would get around to checking and searching their saddle bags, then loading up with the spoils of this little distraction.
Obran spoke swiftly but softly, "M'lady, I do hate to interrupt you but, if thou doest not wish to see something that you may wish to avoid, I would suggest that you turn you back to these dogs.", then proceeded in removing the pieces of their armor and other items of clothing that would be of value to the camp and Richard.
Then he raised after gathering everything of value from these men and he started checking the saddle bags of the horses by simply unlatching them, opening the flaps, looking into each one in turn, then refastening them after putting what would fit into them.. For the items that would not fit he would strap them to the backs of the other two horses with a bit of leather and rope that had been on the horses already.
He turned and looked at Rebecca, "I am so sorry m'lady, I am on an important mission and may not have a lot of time to talk however, if you like, you are most welcome to accompany me if thou doest not mind a small bit of danger."
Obran had been thinking about his initial plan and realized that by raiding the town just up the road he would be doing to them the same thing that the King was doing and refused to stoop to his level of betrayal. He refused to oppress the general populace like that and instead remembered a small encampment of soldiers near by. He however was not sure what Rebecca would think of him attacking troops that belonged to her father but, We already thinking of a lie to tell her if the need arose.
He hated to do such a thing to such a beautiful woman and one so kind but for the good of the Kingdom he would do what was necessary to be done and could only hope for forgiveness afterward.
Obran gathered the reins of the other two horses and tethered them to the bedroll straps of the one horse that he would now ride. then mounted the horse with very little difficulty.
Rebecca Dragonsbane (GloryChan)
When Obran mentioned that she might wish to turn her back to the dead scouts, Rebecca's cheeks flared crimson at the thought of the only thing she could think of that might prompt him to say such a thing.... And at the curiosity that she felt.... Did the private parts of marauding dogs look the same as any others that she might wish to one day see...? She quickly turned around, giving herself those few moments of his search in order to take a few deep breaths and hopefully allow the color to fade from her cheeks... The sounds of him taking what things might still be of some sort of value from their bodies and checking over the horses and their saddlebags was the only indication that she had of how far along the search he might be.
By the time that he turned to look at her again, the skin of her cheeks had faded back to a normal tone, and she wondered if he had even seen the way that she had blushed so hotly those moments before. Perhaps in the darkness he had not noticed....
"Pray tell, what is this mission of such importance that thou must rush off now in order to accomplish it?" The curiosity and keen interest was more than obvious from her tone and from the light shining in her eyes and face... Obran had just virtually assured that he would have company on his mission, especially when he said that there might be some small element of danger to what he was going to be doing when he left this area for wherever it was that he was headed before he had come across this group of enemy scouts.
She moved to her own horse, patting the mare's shoulder briefly before she mounted up easily and settled into the saddle. She did not ride side-saddle like many Ladies or Princesses might, but fully facing the front and with all the comfort of someone that was atop a well-loved mount.
"Where is it that we are to travel this lovely evening?" She was not going to be left behind, not when there was more adventure to be seen before the night was over with!
Obran Ravyn (tedk32)
Obran looked up at her just as her cheeks started to flush and just gave her a sly little smile to show that he had noticed but did not disapprove. After all, she did have very fair skin and the color just made her that much more attractive and he could only wonder as to what her thoughts were at that moment.
Obran looked to the dead men then realized that he had completely forgot to move their bodies to where they would not be seen, not only be anyone that might happen along this way but by Rebecca as well, He dismounted then proceeded to move the bodies just out of sight to the side of the road and covered the slightly with leaves and such before returning to the horse and mounting it again.
As Rebecca ask of his mission he though hard about telling her the truth or a lie, Instead he decided that it would be better to feel her out on the subject to a small degree and only tell her a half truth without volunteering too much information about what he was doing and for Who..
"Well, It is supposed to be a secret mission but, I do believe that I can trust you m'lady and hope that I am not misplacing my trust in you. As for that I do not believe that I am.", Obran thought swiftly once again and came up with something that should not only be believable but simple in it's delivery.
"I am on a mission from the King to gather some things that are needed from some rogue soldiers and reclaim them. And if need be dispatch the rogues in the process."
Obran thought about which camp, how far, and why he was here instead of closer to it and decided that it was because of the enemy soldiers that he was so far off track. "However, I had received word that there was some soldiers on the road that should not be there and came to investigate before heading on to my mission and now, I am very glad that I had, for if I had not then I would not have had the chance to see your beauty this evening."
Obran liked what he had seen a few moments ago and was attempting to duplicate that same effect but with a much more agreeable comment. One that may even convey some of what he thought of her by now without leading her into thinking that he was after more then just a close friendship for the moment, At least that is, until he knew where she stood in the state of affairs that the Kingdom was in and where her Loyalties actually laid.
Obran left Richard's house and started on his mission as soon as he had retrieved a few items from the stores that he would need.
He headed out of the camp and turned down the road in the direction heading away from the soldier's camp but heading toward the castle of this kingdom.
