Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
Niv smiled as he moved from tree to tree after having left his home for the first time this morning. It was early yet, but there was so much to do in order to prepare for the day that he had planned for himself. Each tree he passed by, he'd brush his hand over briefly in a silent form of greeting.
This stretch of forest was like an old friend to him... or, many old friends would be a more accurate description. He had worked his magic in this stretch of forest for a very long time indeed, and felt a kinship with every plant, every animal, even those that he dare not actually approach in respect for their hunter's nature....
Niv had automatically raised one arm as if to shield his eyes from the brightness of the light... What was that strange feeling that had lanced through him in the moments preceding that light's emergence? He frowned and shivered as he looked around....
It was true that the forest he was in now seemed to be similar to the one that he had been before, but.... There was something inherently wrong here... Something so different from what he was used to feeling... Something that just screamed at him....
.... this is not home...
Somehow, he was now in a place that was completely strange to him, that he didn't know the feel of, didn't like the feel of in the least little bit... And the strangeness that he had felt before that light had come out of nowhere to engulf him....
It was different from anything that he had ever felt before...
Niv slowly stepped away from the oak tree, treading lightly so as to not disturb the vegetation here any more than he had to, and seeking out a trail.. even a small one would do.
Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
Moving slowly so as to not be noticed before he could take proper stock of the situation that he was now presented with, Niv came forward step by step... He was moving towards the sounds of the six people (at least six, at any rate) that he could hear from his current position.
After each step he would pause and listen, to be as sure as possible that he wasn't actually moving away from the sounds of people and horses instead of towards them like he was hoping for.
Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
Niv lifted a brow slightly as he stopped behind a tree. Fingers curling around the curve of the tree's trunk, he watched the encampment's movements as each person went about their business in the early morning light.
They certainly seemed to be a disciplined bunch, but .... there was something different about them. The standards that he could see were not those that he was used to, not those of the kingdom that he came from...
... so, the real question here was.... where was he?
Gate Keeper Ted of PR: Dimension_Gate (tedk32)
As Niv is watching the goings and comings of the camp he notices a young man sneaking through the camp.
The young man looks to be maybe 14y/o and human in appearance. He is very slender and has rather long mangy looking wild hair. Niv would catch sight of him then lose sight as he ducked behind a crate or crawled between tents.. He could not really make out what the young man is doing other then being really sneaky..
Then he would lose sight of the young man completely as he disappeared into a tent.
.. .. .. While watching this going on in the camp a patrol walked past Niv about 20 yards away.. A swordsman and bowman team.. They did not see Niv.
Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
Oh my... Whatever that boy was up to, he didn't seem as if he wanted any attention drawn to him, and Niv didn't know whether it would be a good idea for him to come forward at all.... Who knew what kind of mindset the men of this encampment were in, what their mission was in being out here, however far this was from civilization... He just couldn't be sure....
Yet... what would they think if a patrol were to come upon him just watching their encampment like this? That couldn't be the best image to put forth to soldiers of any description....
Niv sighed, the sound quiet and low as the wind carried it off.
Richhard Silvermire (tedk32)
A couple of minutes later Niv. would notice that same young man, or at least it might be the same young man. He had on clean clothes and what looked like an arm full of food as he began the process of sneaking back out of the camp.
The young man, almost dropped his food as he looked around and noticed Niv. standing there watching the camp. He did not know what was going to happen now. Was this person part of the camp, was he part of the enemy, or was he, like himself, a refugee ... The young man did not know but, he knew that it was not a good thing to be seen either way...
With fright on his face, the young man raised up and bolted off in the direction that he had entered the camp in hopes that he would be able to make it out and out run those that would give chase as soon as they saw him.. And sure enough, no sooner then he started to run then someone seen him and called out the alarm...
With that the entire camp went on high alert and several soldier gave chase after the young man, which seemed to be gaining ground and just might actually make it out of the camp before being caught..
Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
Niv quietly lifted one hand as he watched the young boy flee, the fear obvious upon his face... and that brought a frown to his face. The fact that the young man had only stolen necessary things... clothing and food... spoke a great deal to Niv.
He lifted one hand slowly and chanted under his breath, casting a spell that would set the young man on a magical path that would lead directly to his side.... At his current rate of travel, Niv estimated that should bring him to his side after about ten seconds of travel.... Counted off those seconds..... and then spoke quietly, expecting that the boy would be at his side now.
"Calm, lad... calm yourself, I mean you no harm.... What is going on here, can you tell me?"
Richard Silvermire (tedk32)
As the young man is running and trying to get away from the camp in one piece he take 10 more strides and is now just behind Niv. Still in motion, as he realizes that he is no longer on the same patch of ground that he was just a few seconds ago and he stops dead in his tracks..
As Niv speaks the young man looks at Niv with a look of shear Horror and drops everything he has in his hands, falls to the ground trying to get away, "P.. P.. Plea... Please... Please. . ..... Don't kill m... ... Mmm... me...", as he is scrambling backwards on the ground keeping Niv. in front of him...
Off in the Distance, Niv can hear the camp and the alarms sounding... He can also make out someone yelling in the camp ... MAGIC !!! .... THERE IS A WITCH NEAR!! .... and more alarms..
Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
"Please calm yourself, young man... I mean you no harm.... Those men might have captured you... What is going on here?" He paused in his quiet words, his sensitive ears picking up the sounds of someone yelling in camp, about magic... a witch? And there were alarms going off as if his simple spell was truly something for them to be worried about...
What was going on here?!
He looked utterly confused as the yelling and alarms went off in the camp... He had done nothing that would hurt anyone, and here they were panicking as if he had started an earthquake right over their encampment!
"... a ... witch? Why.... this fear...? I don't understand..."
Gate Keeper Ted of PR: Dimension_Gate (tedk32)
The young man was still scrambling to get away from Niv.. "P.. P.. Plea... Please .. Dont kill me... I k.. k.. kn.... know wh... what your ki.. kind does to peop... pp. pp.. peeop.. people.."
The boy looked as if he was about to pass out from shear fright... Niv could not know that he had been dropped off on Krinn... and that the people of this world feared magic.. Any Magic.. as much as they feared the reaper himself..
This is something that niv would have to figure out on his own.. Something that could be of value or a curse depending on how he looked at it.
In the background of the camp, Niv could hear Horses being saddled up and soldiers gathering weapons and prepairing to send out a rather well armed hunting party for the Boy Witch... .. ... ... ....
Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
"My.... kind?" His tone was one of complete and utter confusion as he stared down at the poor, fear-crazed young man... His frown turned to an expression of genuine concern. The young man was going to get them both discovered the way that he was acting, and as much as he didn't understand the reasoning behind it... he did understand that being discovered by so many soldiers obviously in a high state of alert was not a good thing!
"I only tried to help you get away unmolested, child.... Please, calm down... I can get us both out of here before they discover us, but please.... tell me what is going on here?"
He didn't move to touch the young man, knowing that could only make things worse right now...
Richard Silvermire (tedk32)
The young man was still very afraid of niv but, at least he was able to calm himself enough to talk right this time..
"Hey look, I was just trying to get some food and clothes.. It is the war.. I admit I am from the neighboring kingdom but come on.. I dont want to starve and I really dont want to die by your hands.. I just want to get back to my family.. I swear, I wont say anything about you... Just dont kill me please.. "
The boy had never actually seen a Magic user before as they had mostly been killed off and had only heard the horror stories that the general populace told as bed time stories to their kids to scare them away from witchery or anything that could be considered witchery..
Being a witch was an offense punishable by death and it usually meant either fire or water in that end. But, of course, that is also something that Niv would not know at this point..
Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
"You have my word, young man.... I will not harm you in any way... I could see that all you were doing was getting things that you might need. If you would like, I can get us away from this encampment... It would mean casting another spell, but then there would be little chance of anyone following us away from here..."
There were actually two ways that he could go about that... The first would be a path very similar to the one that he had already given the boy once before.... The other, would be through tree-walking.
"I... am afraid that I do not know much about this land at all... Only what I have observed in the last few moments, since I spotted you entering that encampment..."
Still, he didn't move to touch the young man. Now was not the time to do anything that might frighten him again.
Richard Silvermire (tedk32)
As the Young man hears the calls of the approaching soldiers he looks at Niv.. "Hey, I dont care what you do, I guess Dying by your hand is alot better then what they will do to me for stealing from the King.."
Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
"There will be no dying going on today if I can help it, young man!" Niv spoke quickly, and grabbed the young man's hand, only pausing long enough to ask him which direction `home` was in.... Nodding when the boy pointed, he chanted a quick spell and then pulled the young boy along with him...
... into the closest tree!
Some several moments later, they would be stepping out of another tree almost an entire day's travel in the direction that the boy had pointed.
Richard Slivermire (tedk32)
The young man looked around as they exited the tree and knew that he was in the presence of a very powerful witch..
He looked at Niv with a look of puzzlement and confusion, "You are a witch, but you don't want to kill me, harvest my heart? eyes? .. you don't want to enslave my soul? ..", The boy seemed to gain a hidden knowledge and his face reflected the fear of the thought that had occured to him..
No, This witch would not want these things from a mere peasant, but, what could he want from him.. He had heard several bedtime stories of this band of witches that would take children before they had been introducted to a female, and make them their slaves, entombing their souls into either crystals or gems and commanding them. He had heard that the death of these slaves was extreme in the worst kind of way if they ever temped to betray or even worse, leave their masters..
It was a death that he did not want and would rather be thrown to the rack for his thievery then to have to endure that..
The Young man looked down to the ground.. "My name is Richard and I am at your service master. I can cook, clean, and fight if need be, my best skills of war is with a bow. I will server you till my death. and when that comes may it be swift and merciful.."
Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
Niv looked to be startled when the young man asked him if he didn't want to kill him... harvest his heart... eyes.... enslave his soul... No! All of those were things that a Death Mage might want to do, but not him! There was an honest look of horror at the very idea of doing any of those things to the young man whose life he had just saved (and, unwittingly, in the process saved his own)...
"My name is Niv... Please look up, young Richard... I have no wish to be called master by anyone! You have called me a witch... Why is this? Is that what Mages are called in this land?"
He released Richard's wrist, looking completely and utterly confused still. This land was strange...
GK Ted Presents (tedk32)
Richard looked up at Niv but was very careful not to make eye contact, "Magges? ?? , I have never heard that word before.. Is it something ancient? .. Yes, Witches are those evil creatures that use the forbidden magic arts.. Oh.. I am so sorry. I did not mean to offend you.. It is just that, .. .. .. ..", Richard looked worried again, and looked around trying not to look at Niv for the moment, "Magic is forbidden and evil.. Everyone knows that Witches are in league with the Devil and are evil incarnate, that is where they get their powers from. That is one reason that the Inquisition Officers were appointed and roam the world looking for these evil beings.. I mean your kind.."
Richard looked up at Niv with pleading eyes, "Please, I only told you what I know, and you did ask me. Please, don't kill me for telling you and being honest.", Richard Knelt down and hung his head, He hoped and prayed to his God that this witch would spare his life.
Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
"Yes, Mages... That is what I am, what any with the gift for using magic is called..." He blinked as he listened to more of what Richard had to say... Evil? In league with the Devil? Who had fed this load of nonsense to the boy?
".... magic is not evil!" He sounded honestly shocked that anyone would think of a Mage as being evil simply because they used magic. And, really... he was.... He must have been transported far indeed by whatever strangeness had come upon him in that bright flash of blue light!
Paling considerably, Niv leaned against the tree they had just exited, his forehead pressed against the tree's bark.
"If your people believe it to be this way..... if magic is truly feared to this extent here.... What am I to do?" He did carry a staff and a sling for protection's sake, but had no particular skill in wielding either....
"Dear Gods, what will I ever do until I can figure out how to get back home....?" He looked over to Richard, turning so that his back was pressed to the tree's trunk, as if he needed the support. In a way, he did....
".... my magic... is all that I know, young Richard.... Where I come from, Mages are respected members of society, and I serve my King as an adviser from time to time... I would no more kill you than any other good person.... Please, believe me!"
During the course of his lamenting, Niv had paled several more shades. What was he going to do in a place that believed his one asset in life to be the basest of evils!
Richard Silvermire (tedk32)
Richard listened to Niv very carefully, "Well, you could always go back home.. .. That is where I would like to go if you would allow me to.", He was not sure if Niv. was going to keep him from leaving or not as of yet but, Had started to feel less afraid then he had earlier..
As Niv leaned against the tree and spoke, Richard listened, "Are you from the Kingdom that attacked us by any chance? How did you avoid being captured early on as you were learning your magic?, It is good that you would not kill me, I don't really want to die, I have a girlfriend you know... ... Are you part of the Royal family? .. ", The questions seemed almost endless to a degree but hey, at least the boy was talking now and not stuttering in fear..
Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
"Somehow... I don't think it is going to be that simple for me, my friend...." Niv sighed quietly, reaching up and running his fingers through his long hair and closing his eyes for a moment. ".... but you are more than free to return to your home.... The direction that you told me your home is in, that is where we have gone.... what would otherwise have been nearly a day's travel."
Slowly, he sank down until he was sitting at the base of the tree, his back still pressed against its trunk. He lowered his hands, his fingers brushing over the grass in a manner similar to the way that a parent might brush their fingers through a sleeping child's hair.
"My home.... is much different from your own. As I said, Mages are respected members of society.... There are entire Guilds devoted to the teaching of the different Spheres of magic. I was found and accepted into such a Guild at a young age along with my twin sister.... I chose to study Earth magic, and my sister chose to study Water magic."
He paused, looking up through the branches of the tree into the sky for a moment before continuing. "No.... no, the Royal Family of my homeland are human, but I have long been a friend to them, serving each King and Queen as they come into power just the same as I did the last and the ones before that. That service is a duty that I hold very dear to my heart.... a duty that I shall not be able to continue, now.... at least until I figure out a way to return home... It did not feel like any magic that I have had any experience with at all.... but I was somehow transported from just outside my home to...... Well, to the place where you met me..... And you really don't have to worry about me killing anyone. The only way that I would do that at all is if there is no other chance. I would not even kill those soldiers that had spotted us.... Not unless I had no choice in the matter at all. I would have subdued them with vines to slow them enough to give me the time to make an escape, surely.... But to kill another?"
He shuddered at the thought. "... no. I am no dealer in death."
Richhard Silvermire (tedk32)
Richard looked at Niv when he started talking about his sister and where he came from. He realized that they both were in the same boat but, for different reasons. He too was far from home but for a much different reason then Niv was.
Richard sat down on the grass with his legs crossed and listened to Niv.. When Niv had finished talking Richard chimed in, "Is there people in your homeland like me, Peasants? and are there treated as poorly as we are, driven from our homes, forced to work the fields for the King and his Army?, Young men between the ages of 16 and up forced into service of the King? ... ", Richard seemed to be very interested in hearing about Niv's home now. He had stopped being afraid of him, but in a way envied him. Envied that he could use magic, was not scolded or hunted because of it, and was accepted by the King of his land, even to the point of being allowed to see the King, let alone talk to him. Richard remember the last time that his Mother and father had dared ask an audience with the King of his homeland. That was the last time that he saw them, He had however received word about 2 months later that His mother had been killed and his father had been thrown into the Dungeons for asking for an extension on the crops that they had to deliver for the army by 3 days.
"What is Earth magic? What can you do with it?", Richard was thinking now. Thinking like his father would have if he had still been alive, Although, it was not certain that he was dead, just that no one had heard anything about him since being thrown into the King's dungeon.
Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
The truth of the matter was that Niv missed his twin sister dearly, especially now that he realized that he was in a completely different land, a land where the one thing that he had spent such a great amount of time and effort learning was such a deadly sin that it would cause him to be put to death in all likelihood were he to be caught using magic... It was a huge blow for Niv, with how connected he was to his magic!
"Yes, there are people that have far less in the way of resources than I or the Royal Family or any number of other well-off people might be able to gather together... But to be forced from their homes and to work fields expressly for the King? No..." No, Darynth would never have done such a thing! Why force the good folk of the land away from the homes that they grew to know and love, when there were other ways of providing for a need for food and service? Tax the farmers that tended each field, encourage each town to develop its own armed force that would be able to protect it from invaders!
"Young men of an age nearing their race's adulthood are certainly encouraged to give aid to their neighboring towns in times of need, but to be forced into such service... No, my King has a much brighter mind than to do anything nearly so foolish as that!"
He smiled when Richard asked about his magic... what it was, and what he could do with it. Oh, there were so many applications for his magic, so many things that he could do with it.... "Earth magic is the sphere of magic that deals with plants and the very ground beneath you, also with animals like deer and bears and all manner of natural beasts. I have learned a great deal of how to work with Earth magic.... There are little things that I could do with it, and very big things as well.... I could help plants to grow quicker or bring them to grow slower... I could entangle a person with vines, or cause a wall of stone to come from the ground in front of me for protection... I could even cause my skin to grow hard like bark, or even like stone itself... Remember how you were running, and in a matter of seconds you were brought to me?" He waited for Richard to nod before continuing again.
"That was a spell based upon Earth magic. A magic path that only you would have been able to follow once you started upon it... I have used that spell for myself before to good effect."
Richhard Silvermire (tedk32)
Richard Listened intently to what Niv had to say... He had been taught all of his life that magic of any kind was evil, and that anyone that used it was of the Devil itself.. that they had sold their very souls to command such power but, Listening to Niv speak of the wonderous things that he could do with his earth magic made Richard very uneasy in that, he was not sure at this point what to do.. Should he believe this stranger and abandon all that he had been taught and believed or should he hold fast to his beliefs .. Well, the beliefs of all those around him and in his life to this point..
He would have to consider his choices very hard and make the right decision no matter what it would be.. "Well, I don't know about you Mr. Niv but, I do know that you and I seem to be in the same situation as being far from home and forced from what we know and love, and that we both need to tread lightly where we step for the slightest slip could cost us our lives in more then one way.."
Richard had been thinking about things for some time now as he listened to Niv and considered his choices very carefully now.. "If you are so inclined, I havn't much of my own, nor have I anything of value other then my hard work, but, I would offer that you could come back with me to my home, until you are able to find a way back to your own.. But, keep in mind that we must keep your .. err.. special skills hidden, from everyone at the camp. Although, you could still use them to help us if you were so inclined as well. We have very little food, or shelter for that matter, and no one there really knows anything about how to fight or hunt for the most part. Most everyone there are farmers that had been forced to work in the fields for the King, and well .. ... ... Most of them ent' to smart if you know what I mean.."
Richard would sit now and consider his next statements very very carefully for, if he said the wrong thing then this niv might just change his mind about killing and smite him on the spot.
Niv Namrahs (GloryChan)
The fact remained that while Niv was talking about his magic, his entire face was lit up in the way of a farmer talking about his crops or a blacksmith talking about the process of turning ore into beautiful and useful armors and weapons... He had a real passion for his magic, and dearly loved being able to do the things that he could do with his magic. To have someone showing an interest in it the way that Richard seemed to be doing was a great compliment for him.
"And like you, friend Richard... I don't plan on dying anytime soon if I can help it. If there is anything that I can do to help my chances of making a decent living for the time that I will be here in your land..." Even though he had held a high position in his home, that didn't mean that he was a lazy man by any means... No, the very way that he lived his life ensured that he would never be the type of man that was at his ease living off of the labors of others. If he could take care of himself and his own needs, that was exactly what he would do.
"I would be honored to accompany you to your home and help out those of your camp in any way that I can..." And the wheels were already turning in his head as to how he would be able to help them. He and Richard could go on foraging runs and he could grow food plants while they were out and just come back with the food that would come from the plants that he would encourage to grow....
Richhard Silvermire (tedk32)
Richard stood up and pointed off to the west.. "Home, for now anyway, is that way.. Should be about half a days travel from here."
Richard looked at niv then extended his hand down to the elf in an offering to help him to his feet, "I appreciate you talking to me and I will not let you down.. Just promise that you will do what you have to do to not let it be known what you are until it is the right time please.. If the wrong people found out then it could mean both of our lives."
Richard was thinking fast and hard now.. Placing friends, Possible friends, and foes, He was also thinking about maneuvers and patrols, along with financial needs and food needs as well as all sorts of other essentials for an army including weapons, armor, mounts, training, and that was just to name a few... He had thought that the gypsy woman was nuts when she told him that he would be King one day as she was taken through the streets of the town he had lived in before the war started and put to the stake for Witchery but now that he thinks back on it, maybe she was not too far from the truth after all..
