Resheph Lahab (Leshrac)
(4/5/2007 11:57:28 PM)
Resheph had gotten settled into the city, and had been able to afford a small room. He had even met with a local herbalist, and had begun studying the local plants. He paid off his trianing with basic services, and preperations even though he could do so much more. The plants in this realm were so much different, perhaps it was because magic seemed to permiate this land where in his land it did not. A few things were recongiseable but many things were not.
He made what was left of his cash selling his recpeies to anyone outside the herbalist who would by them. His magic was medicher at best, but his skills with distilation and alchemy was excellent, even when dealing with odd materials. He was limited though simply due to his lack of equipment.
He was walking sliently down the street now though returning to his small room to resume his studies. Thier had to be some formulae behind the portal that brought him here. If only he could figure it out he could step back home. Though the longer he stayed here the less sure he was that he wanted to go home. Here he could practice his trade openly, and not hide behind the viels of medicine and warriors.
It was hard to tell him what drew him to the screaming woman as she came out of the gate. Perhaps his magic senses felt the tingling of the gate energy, or perhaps her scream reminded him. But he was drawn where others were not to the Knight, kneeing on the ground screaming in confusion.
He rushed to her kneeling in the alley next to her. His instinctive response was to befuddle her with one of his potions to calm her down, but somehow the armor seemed familar. Was she from his world?
"Calm Down. It will be okay. What is your name? Where are you from?"

That startled outcry had been brief, but apparently not so brief that it hadn't drawn unwanted attention to the Lady Knight... At least she had reached the alleyway, out of these strange and yet almost familiar streets where magic ran rampant like a disease before the outcry had overtaken her...
As the man knelt next to her and began to speak to her, she couldn't help a slight shiver that had absolutely nothing to do with cold whatsoever.
To be perfectly honest, she had mixed feelings about what she had seen so far. She was absolutely terrified that the foul Witch that kept sending her about was not only behind this... but near at hand, that she might get rid of the troublesom knight with her own bare hands or with another fell spell.... She wanted to demand that proper justice be meeted out to all those openly commiting acts of witchcraft.... And then, there was the smallest part of what she was feeling... a part that was starting to grow, even if only a little bit at a time....
.... she had run into so much magic on the first other world she'd been to, and been told that it was something called `science`..... over and over again... What if it was? What if this was too?
...... she was curious.....
She took a deep breath, calming herself as much as possible, all things considered. Her voice was faintly trembling, but it was much better than the screaming had been.
"I am called Meiriona Ceridwen, a Knight.... Who art thou? What strange land is this? I hail most recently from the city of Lyratul...."
Resheph Lahab (Leshrac)

His accent was odd to her. It defintally wasnt from her section of the lands, but it was further south. She had heard it before from digintaries and challenging war leaders. The southern countient performed things much differently, and had for times gone to war with her land for ethical and spiritual reasons. For now though they wre at peace. A hostile treaty had been signed as long as they stayed out of each others territory. It was tenous at best, but for now the treaty stood.
Thier were legends about the southern land. That they performed strange rituals on thier dead, that they had sorcers and wtiches in the employee and treated them like royalty using thier dark powers. The diginataries that came though spoke with flowery words and never mentioned such things. Thier were still always rumors though. Strange men in white robes often moved through thier units, treating thier men with ungents and strange liquids. Men treated healed unhumanly fast, some of them were treated with other potions and shrugged off wounds. Men in strange robes. Men like the man that kneeld beside her now.
"I am Resheph Lahab, of the Southern Land of Abereen. I know the land you come from, but yoou are not thier any more. The city you have fallen in is called Merra City. This land they say is called Elaria."
His eyes seemed sympathetic, but at the same time they were intently curious darting around the area she fell like he was looking for something. Indeed he was. He was seeking out residue of the gate. She had just come through. Perhaps something of the power lingered, the exhange must generate something that could be analyzed.

She had heard of his land, alright.... She had even been in battles in the last war between his land and her own... It hadn't been particularly long ago, but long enough that she didn't eye him with open distrust. The robes a taste of the familiar, something that she could ground herself with even if he wasn't from her own land precisely.
It didn't matter. He was from her world, and was someone that she could recognize as being not completely foreign to her, so his very presence was actually more soothing to her than he might realize of expect at the moment.
"You seem to have a talent for speaking the obvious, Resheph...." She spoke softly, a hand lifting to run fingers through her naturally silver hair as she looked aroud slowly, taking in more of the area without having to be surrounded by it. That helped, too...
"Merra City.... Elaria.... Doth thou know much of this Elaria?" If she was going to be here a while, she needed to learn as much as possible.... And she had a feeling that she would, indeed, be here for quite some time...
She changed her mind.... strangling was too good for the witch responsible for tossing her about from world to world....

Well yeah. He wasnt the best in social engagments. He was much more useful behind a book or in a lab working up his components and using his will to draw the true elements together and craft the components into the proper framework. But here he was instead trying to console someone from his realm.
"Some. I havent been here long either. I know that the people overall are very simalar to ours, but that magic is a natural feature of this realm. It is something that is honored and respected, rather then feared."
Thier was a certain tone of distaste in his voice as he said this. Not to this realm but to his home realm. He disliked having to be a secret, to studying in the shadows and pretending he was doing something else other than performing what amounted to magic. It wasnt true magic, not like this. But it was something more then just herbalism. It took more then mixing herbs together. It took more then just skill to distill plants and animal parts down to thier natural compoenents, and then force them, to merge into something different.
Then it was studied as a form of internal alchemy. Making your body one with the elements, and then the elements would become as you intended. As he studied magic more here though he began to understand that perhaps thier was some principles of that involved, but at a more simple level.

...... magic is a natural feature of this realm...... honored and respected.....
The shock in finding out that little tidbit of information was more than obvious in the Lady Knight's expression. As far as she was concerned, as far as she had always been taught, magic wasn an abomination. Something to be shunned, to be strangled out of the whole of society because it was a slap in the face of the natural order of things.
To honor.... to respect.... to revere.... something so unnatural was an idea that left her mind boggling, and for the moment at least she didn't seem to have the presence of mind to attempt to hide the shock that she was feeling.
"I thank thee for this information, m`lord..." Though, it didn't seem to be the most welcome information, she still appreciated it... It would help her to know how to get along in this world until she could leave it again.
Resheph Lahab (Leshrac)
(4/24/2007 12:57:39 AM)
He watches her reaction intently. Watching as she soaks up this dramatic change in her mind and her expressions. It was clear that it was a great effort to actually absorb this information as fact and accept it as a fact.
He waited as long as it was nessecary for her to accept the information and respond. He bowed slowly and deeply. Respect for a Knight, respect for a opposing solider. He was an alchemist, but he was no knight, nor was he in any way nobility, especially not here. "You are welcome lady knight. I think this land will take some getting used to for you. Do you know how you came to be here?"
He wasnt looking at her as he spoke the next question though, rather his sharp eyes were darting back and forth rapidly scanning the ground and walls around where she gated in to find if thier was any form of residue that didnt seem to belong in this alley. Fluids or solid substances generated, his senses opened to the magic realms while he scanned his eyes dialaiting more then was natural as he scanned for magical residue.

It's true that the information that this man was giving her wasn't the easiest for her to hear and to accept as fact. But there was the first world she had been whisked off to, as well, and how different that world was from her own. After a fashion, it helped her to accept more readily strange differences between her world and this one.
Had this been the first world that the witch had sent her to..... bad things would very likely have happened almost as soon as she witnessed a few feats of a magical nature.
"I have an inkling of what brought me here, aye.... Why doth thou ask?" Was he another victim of the witch? Anything was possible....
Around them, the only things that might seem even slightly out of place would be a few chips of wood a little further from the closest doorway than was usual. But it could have come from the door or the floor of the building that the door was attached to, as well as from a foreign world from this one. If he had gotten here a moment earlier, there might have been more for him to go by, but there wasn't.
As for magical residue... There was none whatsoever that didn't belong to this world in one way or another. Whatever had brought her here (and, invariably, the thing that'd brought him here at some point).... it was not magical at all. Not one little bit.
Resheph Lahab (Leshrac)
(4/24/2007 1:32:46 AM)
He nodded as he listened to her walking past her his eyes intent on what he saw gathering up the chips of wood, and also chips of wood from the ground near it that was clearly from this land. Perhaps he could alchemically distill down the differences between the core of the woods, distill down the base elements of the materials and find if the balance was dramatically different.
"Simply trying to determine the nature of the power that is directing the sudden shifting of realms and moving of people from one place to another. I do not think this power is magic based. I belive that thier is some balance between our realms, and perhaps other realms that is maintained by the gating of people from realm to realm, to balance the equilbrium of the worlds." He looked up and blinked a few times as he collected the wood and put them into two small vials that he extracted from his belt. As he had his back to her it did give her the chance to notice the size of the sword attached to his back, a large moorish war sword.
"Im sure you would like somewhere to rest. I can lead you to the in. They use coins much like our own, many different faces, it seems to only matter to them the quantity of gold in the coin."
Meiriona Ceridwen (GloryChan)
(4/24/2007 2:50:58 AM)
That was... a very, very odd theory that Resheph had about the snatching of people and in some cases things and tossing them about different worlds at the whim of the witch, or whatever, or whoever.... that was in control of the whole process. If she was honest with herslf, Meiriona found that she didn't know which theory to believe more.... Her own, or his.
"I find it hard to believe that my presence in mine homeland could e'er upset the `balance` between the realms, as ye call them, m`lord." She was a Knight, yes, but that didn't mean that she was one of those that thought that they were God's answer to every problem in existance. She couldn't see herself to believing that her being in one world or another at any given point in time was honestly that important.
If she hadn't already noticed his general appearance, then she would have known the kingdom that he had once hailed from by that sword.... She had fought opposite one bearing that sword often enough.... and had fought beside the same sort of warrior a few times as well.
"Aye... I would appreciate being shown to an inn... Rest would be most welcome..." And time to pull her thoughts together.... To observe without having to interact with those things that still struck a sour chord with her. I thank thee, m`lord..."
Resheph Lahab (Leshrac)
(4/24/2007 3:03:02 AM)
"I do not claim to know the facts of this process. i am still trying to sort it out. But when I was gated, thier was no obvious reason. Perhaps you have been hunting something specific but my team was in the middle of battling a Dragon, perhaps something gated from this realm, and suddenly we were here instead, and the dragon seemed as confused as us. I was lucky to survive, due to the intercession of a local spellcaster." He said nothing about how much time he had spent studying with him, learning the herbs of the realm and the magic of the realm. That wasnt important for her to know, and it actually might have affected her opinion of him.
"I dont figure it is one specific person doing this. Perhaps some overarching force that shuffles the souls from one realm to another to maintain some balance, that is currently beyond me, beyond perhaps all of us." He steps out into the main street then glancing around to see if anyone took any nessecary attention, this realm was at least much like his in that criminals and pick pockets ran rampant and in some areas they liked to frequently.
"Well lets get you somewhere you can relax and be comfortable."
Meiriona Ceridwen (GloryChan)
(4/24/2007 3:14:06 AM)
Somewhere comfortable? That would have to be her home, a place that she was sure she wouldn't be seeing again very soon. She couldn't possibly be that lucky... at least, not again.... The first time she had been taken out of her world had been traumatic enough to last entire lifetimes.... But, here she was, shuffled about again after being teased with a short stay in her home....
"I can see thy point, m`lord... No single person could be so twisted in humor nor so broad in vision as to encompass entire worlds." Of course, that was assuming that they even picked and chose the individuals that were being shifted around from world to world... Perhaps that was the case, and perhaps it wasn't. That was something that would simply have to be found out.
She would get to the bottom of this... That was part of her personal duty, if not her duty to her King and Kingdom.... And Meiriona was one Lady Knight that took her duty very very seriously indeed.
"I am ready to follow where'er thou might lead." She gave him a smile, not judging him too harshly for his admission of accepting the aid of a witch.... a spellcaster, as he called it. In times of great peril, sometimes even evil can be of service.... And perhaps not all spellcasters in this world were evil.... It was a remote possibility, but a possibility all the same.....
