Dodge was an interesting city, but one can only gamble so long in a city like that before people start noticing your cheating, before people start wanting thier money back and sending someone after you. Thier was this nice little river boat only a few cities away though, so he stabled his horse Noname thier and hitched a ride. Figure take it for a single spin around the river, and then head out to greener pastures.
This wasnt exactally the cheapest ride though, so most of the money spent on getting on is getting won back now. One hand at a time he takes what he needs. A few slips of the card here, a switch of the dice thier. Its hard to make money while not cheating enough to get caught though. This was going to be a very long trip, so he had to play it very carefully. Forutnately they hadnt taken his guns, hell they hadnt even gone through his saddle bags. It had been easy. That meant they proably expected violence if people got played wrong.
Right now he was sitting at a table, playing it straight. Thier were only a few other players right now, but thats because it was getting late, the sun was just begining to come up so most people had played themselves out. Only a few of the serious players were still sitting around the table.

The riverboat was one of her favorite places to play. Mostly because between the violence and the drinking, people were easy to steal from off of the tables. She had gone to the games in style, her most recent benefactor having paid for a handsome cab to take them there, her trunks brought to her room. Thankfully, he was a hardcore gambler, and didn't think she was. He assumed she was off exploring the boat. When, in truth, she was busy at the tables.
She was seated across from him in a pretty little pinafore that made her look simply darling, and, at the same time simply airhead-ish. She was playing the card to the hilt, the first few hands going as far as to ask the gentleman next to her if 'all red was a good hand'. But by now they were almost wise to her game. They stopped giving her advice- but they still didn't think that she could play for nuts. Luck was what they muttered with every single hand she won.

Dom knew this game. He had seen it played before. Hell he had coached a woman through playing it before. It was the game of ignorance and luck with cards. To pretend you didnt know, only to dupe every other male at the table with your fantastic luck with the cards. He didnt belive that she was as bad as she was letting on, but everyone else was to tired and to worn out too actually notice.
Dom on the other hand wasnt quite as weak as many of them. His unique consitution ment that he really wasnt tired at all just yet, and was actually enjoying watching her play the crowd. He didnt mind loosing a few chips here or thier to watch everyone else loose everything. What it meant though is now he played with all the ruthlessness he could, gave her a challenge. Soon thier wouldnt be anyone but them playing. Then the game could become much more interesting.
"Maybe you boys should be goin to bed. Shes far to lucky for ya'll to continue loosing money like this. At this rate thier gonna throw you off before we hit the next city."
The other players glared at his sarcasm and then seemd even more resolute to get back to thier game and prove thier skill far outweighted her luck. He just smirked and looking up at her winked briefly.

Her dark, stormy eyes met his across the table and for a moment, there was a small flicker of challenge, of warning, or something dangerous, before she giggled and batted her eyes at the elderly gentleman next to her “Oh ah'm sure I'll be out by the next hand. It'll just be far too late for me to be playing!” She took a sip of her drink- they all thought it was vodka on the rocks- she had dumped it out and poured some water into it long ago...another small smile as the dealer dealt out the next hand. The only person she needed to worry about was sitting right across from her. She didn't like that. Not one bit.

He let a soft smile as they played out one more hand. And he played it like the shark he was. She was good, but he couldnt stand true competition, after all no one could be as good as he was. It just wasnt allowed. So he had to prove her wrong. He kept a constant smile but played every card like it was his last his fingers gently tapping the table as he watched the stress worm across the other players eyes and watched as one by one they bowed out of the hand. Some of them proably had better cards too, but when men were tired they didnt pay enough attention to other people, the lost the art of reading tells, and lost the touch that was required to truely control a room.
The hand came down to just the two of them and he called. Well d**n it all. She was good. Not that any one else on the table was noticing. He just smiled though as he watched her gather the chips, at least the view was good.
"We'll played Ma'am. Youve had quite a bit to drink i see thier. These boats can be a dangerous for a pretty thang like you. Would you be liking an escort back to your room?"
Zayahera (AngelofApathy)
(4/7/2007 11:40:45 PM)
She didn't want this troublemaker to think he had the better of her. This was going to be her last hand, she had almost doubled her 'pin' money, as well as her own personal savings, which hadn't been much. But this hand had been for pride, she could see it in every tap that Dominique pressed against the table. He wasn't pleased. She counted the numbers on the table and knew she had it...
When she showed the ladies, she blushed and giggles appropriately, in the high, girlish voice she had been using all night, collecting her chips while giving the table a view to make them forget to count exactly how much she was taking away from the table.
Then the bloody man had to ask her if she wanted an escort. Bendhio..
“Oh why you are simply too kind, but I do wish to take you away from your little game!” She exclaimed, standing up.
Dominique Franklin (Leshrac)
(4/7/2007 11:46:40 PM)
The smile rose again. The sarcastic cutting smile that the wore when he knew the game was on his size. Sure she had won the hand, but he could tell he was getting under her skin. And that was the goal. He wanted under her skin, he wanted her on edge enough that she wouldnt be prepared the next time they played. That she would be more worried about one upsmanship then she would about the actual game and shed slip. It wouldnt come right away though. It would be later. The next time they played, and then the next. Letting the knowlege and frustration build up.
"Oh no Ma'am. Its no trouble. I was needing to take a break anyways, and it seems these old boys are done with cards for the night anyways."
He was actually right in that as they grumbled and quietly gathered up the rest of thier chips and went to turn in for the night. Many of them as well had to much to drink, and were not in any condition to play in the first place.
"It would be my honah, to assist you."
He got up and slipped his hat over his head settling it right around his ears and throwing his heavy leather duster on stepping back and sliding it over his shoulders with a spin, causing the bottom to flair out dramatically. Nothing else going for him. At least he had style.
Zayahera (AngelofApathy)
(4/7/2007 11:50:22 PM)
“Yah far too kind...” She drawled, watching him under hooded eyes. He was dangerous. He was probably one of the only dangers she had on this ship. And she was not in the habit of indulging in danger unless it was of her choosing.
She waited for him, gathering her skirts and her coinpurse, waiting for him to gather himself. “I am not far, just down the way, on one of the balcony rooms, you see.”
Dominique Franklin (Leshrac)
(4/7/2007 11:54:13 PM)
Balcony rooms aye? Awful good place to try to throw someone from a boat. Especially a lover after fleecing him for all his money. After all this river wasnt that swift moving and it was a nice season. They would survive, broke and with wounded pride. She couldnt be that vicious though could she?
"Of course. It pays to be kind in a world like this. A friendly face is such a rare thing to find."
He didnt trust her as far as he could throw her, and he couldnt throw anyone very far. He smiled though and put the side to her that didnt have anything in the pockets. He didnt know how sneaky she was, but neither did he want to take any risks.
Zayahera (AngelofApathy)
(4/7/2007 11:58:46 PM)
Of course she was that vicious. But she'd throw him out there naked. He'd never bring himself to tell anyone of the incident. It would be golden once the second night of the cruise was done with. And she could play the jilted lover to the hilt, leaving the riverboat crying, sobbing something about a mistress and all of the men would think him a cad.
She loved this game.
She took his arm and just batted her eyelashes at him, walking silently away from the crowd. Her fingers itched at the dagger that was hidden in the thin sleeve of her dress. If he made one move...he would never have children again.
Dominique Franklin (Leshrac)
(4/8/2007 12:04:17 AM)
Despite what he may have seemed he was actually all but a perfect gentleman. His hands never roamed and his fingers stayed in his pockets as he had his arm hooked around hers. He made sure to keep her pace moving casually and comfortably untill she lead him to her room. He wasnt taking a pace assuming she was drunk either, he was walking the pace he was comfortable with and didnt seem suprised that she could keep up.
"It was a pleasure playing with you tonight, Ma'am. You have a good night."
He stepped back from her unraveling his arm from her shoulder and carefully guilding her in with a hand to her back. When she turned around he wore that smirk again. That grin that said "I know your game."
Zayahera (AngelofApathy)
(4/8/2007 12:11:41 AM)
“You as well...” She met his eyes, another challenge there. She was clearly daring him to say something to her, anything to her.
In truth, it might be a little bit of a relief to have an argument, get into a fight. Playing this boring mistress was really not a fun sport. But a profitable one. This man could blow her cover. He could try to hold it over her. That she wouldn't allow. She wouldn't allow anyone that sort of control over her.
Dominique Franklin (Leshrac)
(4/8/2007 12:18:37 AM)
He only smiled as the look of challenge crossed over her face. He didnt turn away, just calmly and casually staring her down. The smile lingered. Just hang thier without a single twitch of his expression. Then as he turned away a coin span over his shoulder, a single dollar coin.
"Might want to slide that in your knickers deary. You'll be needing it to buy a new dress when they throw you overboard."
He didnt plan on rating her out, but he wasnt the only one who was perceptive here. Boats like this usually had law men on them who were gunnin for a profit. Who had just ended thier last job, and were just lookin for another excuse to catch an outlaw who cheated at cards, or cheated a client. Someone might catch up with her, and it proably wouldnt be him.
Thier wasnt a single person in the hallway other then them, and he casually walked away from her door. But though his back was too her his perceptions were waiting for her to make a move, to find out if she actually had a vicious streak.
Zayahera (AngelofApathy)
(4/8/2007 12:26:44 AM)
In a flash, she had her dagger out, pressed against his jewels. You got more out of a man if their family was in danger, after all. “You rat me out....you and me will have business, are we crystal? I leave you to your schemes, you leave me to mine. Maybe we can play nice even. But I find out you are a squealer...and that pretty little card-switch trick you love ever so much will be front page news...”
Dominique Franklin (Leshrac)
(4/8/2007 12:37:24 AM)
Despite all of her threats though he just smiled down at her leaning slightly into the knife, enough that it might start poking through his clothing. He wasnt afraid. Granted he should be, but something in his life had worn away all that fear, worn away any ability to be afraid. Unfourunately the hollow place that it left behind hadnt been replaced by something useful. It had been filled in with sarcasm.
"Oh golly gee, the dear lady has a weapon. What every shall I do? Shes gonna cut me. Who woulda ever though that Jack the Ripper was actually a woman."
His smirk curled across his lip even more. Clearly his survival skills were slim to non, either that or he knew she wouldnt press any harder just yet.
"Oh trust me deary. Its....crystal."
With the words he lifted up just enough that she could feel the gun barrell pressing just below her breast, pointing up in such a way that it would pass clean through her heart. He hadnt moved since she rushed him, which meant hed been holding the gun to her the entire time.
Zayahera (AngelofApathy)
(4/8/2007 12:41:25 AM)
Her jaw worked, and her dark eyes flashed at him in burning anger. She could try to dance out of his way- she was much more lithe then she looked. But the bloody corset she was wearing made that a little more difficult then it seemed. Plus, there was always a chance he had a second gun, and if she moved she would take away her close-range advantage.
So she pressed closer, pressed right up against him, “So we're on the same page...” Her real voice was nothing like the grating tone she was using before. Her real voice had a slightly Spanish accent to it, and was nearly purring when she was mad. “I will cover your back...you will cover mine? And we both make it off this boat with no issues.”
Dominique Franklin (Leshrac)

His voice had no change to it. It was nothing he had ever concealled. it was his motions, and his expressions, the stance and the face, that made the lie, the voice was simply the medium in which his words came out, but it wasnt the power in which he used them for.
His breath was warm in her ear though, she could proably almost hear the heat of desire in the air across her neck. His sarcasm though, didnt cut out.
"Id be glad to cover your back any time."
He leaned his head back slowly though and nodded. It wouldnt be a bad idea actually. Keep an eye out for lawmen, and people watchin for cheaters and players.
Hell and mabey if he turned on some of the old Franklin charm......Heh. Hed have to find it first though.
Zayahera (AngelofApathy)
(4/8/2007 12:49:24 AM)
She eyed him as he leaned into her, and she smirked over his shoulder. “Play your cards right cowboy...and we might have to seal this deal properly...”
With that, she turned, brushing her hair against his face, but putting her back to his gun. If he wanted to shoot her, now would be the time to do it, while she let herself into her cabin.
Dominique Franklin (Leshrac)
(4/8/2007 12:55:55 AM)
He smiled as she leaned in, well that could make this a much more interesting trip.
"Well boy howdy mayam. I think you've got my heart all a twitter."
She would hear the click of the hammer as he slowly lowered it. Then she would hear the whirring sound as he spun the gun across his finger and snapped it down into its holster.
Zayahera (AngelofApathy)
(4/8/2007 12:57:09 AM)
She just smiled to herself, and looked back at him with a smirk, before closing the door to her room, and locking it well.
